Britt Robertson Cast as Angie McAlister in Under the Dome
Under the Dome‘s Brittany “Britt” Robertson is one of Hollywood’s fastest rising young starlets. Though only twenty-two, she has already accomplished more in her acting career than most will in their entire lives.
Long before Under the Dome, Britt Robertson was born in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1990 (close to where Under the Dome will be filmed), and grew up in Greenville, South Carolina, where she first aspired to be an actor. She is the oldest of seven children, has three brothers and three sisters, and was home schooled by her mother. She stayed in Chester (unrelated to Chester’s Mill) with her grandparents for a couple of months to film the movie Ghost Club.
Britt first appeared before an audience when performing various roles on stage at the Greenville Little Theater in her home town. At age 12, Britt began making extended trips to Los Angeles to audition for roles in TV shows and even landed a spot in a pilot for a show which was never picked up by a network (we couldn’t find what this failed pilot was called). Her first big break came when she was selected to play Michelle Seaver in the Growing Pains: Return of the Seavers.
Her most notable feature film role to date is that of Cara Burns in the 2007 film, Dan In Real Life. Britt also appeared in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation in episode 168, “Go to Hell”, and had a role as a recurring character in the CBS television series, Swingtown.
In 2008, she played the main character in a Lifetime Original Movie, Trixie Stone, in the movie based on Jodi Picoult’s novel, The Tenth Circle, followed by many other television roles.
In 2009, she played a small role as DJ in The Alyson Stoner Project. She also made a guest appearance on Law and Order: SVU in the episode “Babes” as Tina Bernardi, a Catholic teen who gets pregnant in a pact. In 2010, she starred in The CW’s show Life Unexpected as Lux Cassidy, a teenager who gets back in her parents’ lives. In late autumn 2010, she starred as Allie Pennington in Avalon High, which is based on Meg Cabot’s book of the same name.
Britt starred as Cassie Blake in The CW’s 2011 television series from Scream/The Vampire Diaries mastermind Kevin Williamson, The Secret Circle, until the show was canceled in 2012 after its first season due to disappointing ratings.
Britt’s feature film career is already nothing to sneer at. She has starred in Keeping Up with the Steins, Frank, From Within, Mother and Child, Cherry Beth, Triple Dog, Scream 4, The Family Tree and the 2012 Sundance hit, The First Time.
Recently, Britt was considered one of the 55 faces of the future by Nylon Magazine’s Young Hollywood Issue.
Her casting on Under the Dome is the first Stephen King project she has been associated with. She is going to play Angie McClatchey, who in the novel is a waitress at the Sweetbriar Rose in Chester’s Mill. According to Wikipedia,
Angie is an aspiring nurse with dreams of escaping the town
Well, that won’t be happening anytime soon. It is still too early to tell how much the character in the Under the Dome TV show will differentiate from the novel’s description. It is probably easy to assume that Angie will be one of the 26 survivors of the titular dome.
One also need to be aware that while we do not know the extent yet, they have already made some serious changes with this character from the Under the Dome novel. According to a January 2013 casting notice, Angie will be Joe McAlister’s (played by Colin Ford) sister. In the Under the Dome novel, the characters were not related and Angie’s surname was McCain. It is also said that Angie in Under the Dome the TV show is still a waitress who volunteers at a medical center since she wants to be a nurse. It is also said that Angie is held hostage by Alex Koch‘s Junior Rennie, who is mentally unstable and thinks he is protecting her, when he is doing anything but.
Britt Robertson will soon be seen in The Delivery Man, White Rabbit, and Undiscovered Gyrl.
UPDATE: From CBS.com:
Character: Angie McAlister
Actor: Britt Robertson
Angie’s one goal has always been to leave Chester’s Mill forever, but in the meantime she’s been biding her time working the lunch shift at Sweetbriar Rose and as a candy-striper at the local health clinic. But when the dome comes down, she finds herself trapped in a place she never imagined.
