Mike Vogel Cast as Dale “Barbie” Barbara in Under the Dome!
Michael James “Mike” Vogel was born on July 17, 1979. He is an American actor and former fashion model. Mike Vogel began acting in 2001, and has since appeared in several films and TV series-es.
Long before Under the Dome, Mike Vogel was born in Abington Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania in 1979 and raised in Warminster Township, Pennsylvania; both of his grandfathers fought in World War II, with one being a tank commander and fighting in the Battle of the Bulge, and the other being a Seabee in the Navy. Mike has two younger siblings: a brother, Daniel Aaron, and a sister, Kristin. He attended William Tennent High School, the same high school as Sprint spokesman Brian Baker and boxer Kermit Cintron, where Mike Vogel was on the Freshman wrestling team. During the early 2000s, he frequently traveled to New York City in order to audition for acting roles and modeling slots.
Mike Vogel began modeling for Levi’s, and was subsequently cast in the television series Grounded for Life, appearing in a recurring role between 2001 and 2004. His first film role was in the skateboarding-themed Grind, which was released on August 15, 2003. The film’s co-stars included Adam Brody and Jennifer Morrison. Mike’s next role was in the made-for-television remake of Wuthering Heights, which premiered on MTV a month after Grind‘s release, in September 2003. In the film, Mike Vogel played Heath opposite Erika Christensen’s Kate. Vogel’s last 2003 role was in the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
In 2005, after Grounded for Life was canceled, Mike Vogel appeared in four film roles. First, he played Eric Richman, the romantic interest of Blake Lively’s character in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, which had a June release. His next role was the lead in the low-budget film, Supercross, which was theatrically released in August. Vogel filmed his role in Havoc, a dark, R-rated drama also starring Anne Hathaway, in 2003, but the film was not released until November 2005, when it bypassed theaters and was released directly-to-video. Mike Vogel‘s final 2005 role was in Rumor Has It…, starring Jennifer Aniston, in which he had a supporting role as the son of Kevin Costner’s character.
Mike Vogel‘s first 2006 role is in Poseidon, a disaster film (and disaster of a film) and remake of the 1972 film The Poseidon Adventure; he plays the fiancé of Emmy Rossum’s character. The film, which has a budget of $160m, opened on May 12. Mike was originally offered the role of Angel in X-Men: The Last Stand, but backed out to appear in Poseidon (bad move). The same year, he appeared in Caffeine, a romantic comedy and signed to appear in a horror movie called Open Graves, shot in Spain. In 2007, Mike appeared in the film The Deaths Of Ian Stone, part of the horror film festival 8 Films to Die For. In 2009, Mike Vogel starred in the neo-noir film, Across The Hall with the late Brittany Murphy. He was part of the 2010 romantic comedy film, She’s Out of My League, Blue Valentine, TV series Miami Medical and Heaven’s Rain.
Mike Vogel was part of the 2011 comedy film What’s Your Number? and played Johnny Foote in the film adaption of the best seller, The Help, the Academy Award-winning film of the same name. He won a Screen Actor’s Guild award for Best Cast and recognition from the National Board of Review for Best Ensemble Cast. He most recently played Dean on the short-lived ABC drama Pan Am (based on the now-defunct airline of the same name).
Amongst his many accomplishments, BuddyTV ranked him #96 on its list of “TV’s Sexiest Men of 2011″. He was also the runner-up for the role of Captain James T. Kirk in J.J. Abrams’ reboot of Star Trek. He lost the role to Chris Pine.
Mike Vogel is returning to CBS as the heroic Mike “Barbie” Barbara in Under the Dome, his first Stephen King-related project. His character is described as a waiter at the Sweetbriar Rose diner in the Under the Dome novel, but is on the same enigmatic mission in the TV show, apparently. We do not know yet if he is a waiter on the show. He also plays Zach Shelby in A&E’s Psycho-prequel series, Bates Motel. Yes, that’s where the above picture comes from. The A&E series’ first season should be over with its ten episode run before Under the Dome premieres. Will Mike Vogel be back for season two of Bates Motel while doing Under the Dome? We shall see what young Norman bates has in mind for him this season first.
According to Wikipedia, Under the Dome‘s Barbie is a fantastic fit for Mike Vogel,
A former Army lieutenant (initially referred to as a former captain by Colonel Cox), Barbara became a drifter after mustering from the Army. Trapped within feet of the edge of the Dome, witnessing a woodchuck cut in half by the event, Dale was attempting to flee the town after a confrontation with Junior Rennie and his friends. Dale soon becomes the US government’s choice to run Chester’s Mill. This causes more tension between Dale, Big Jim, and Junior. One of the 26 survivors of the Dome.
Mike Vogel married Courtney, a former model in January 2003, and has two pugs, Orlando and Olivia. Mike and Courtney welcomed their first child, daughter Cassy Renee Vogel, on February 20, 2007. Their second child, daughter Charlee B. Vogel, was born June 2, 2009.
