Natalie Zea Cast as Maxine in Under the Dome!
Happy Monday to you, too! TV Guide and Matt Webb Mitovich of TV Line are reporting that The Following and Justified actor Natalie Zea will play a pivotal (and likely villainous) role in CBS’ summer adaptation of Stephen King‘s Under the Dome! According to these reports, Natalie Zea will portray Maxine for an undisclosed number of episodes. Who is Maxine, you might ask? Beats me, as this character is not in Stephen King‘s Under the Dome novel. It might sound odd to introduce a new character in the ninth episode of a story where no one can get in or out of the town since they are, well, under a dome, but executive producer Neil Baer seems to have his ways. He says, “Once you’re stuck under the dome, casting is fairly limited because people can’t get in, but that doesn’t mean there might not be somebody hiding out. This is a little different than anything that happens in the novel, I might add. I will have no choice but to update this article as more information becomes available.
This is a huge development in a series that just keeps getting bigger and bigger with anticipation. Signing an in-demand working TV actor who already has a hit mid-season broadcast show on the air is not a big risk for a summer series like Under the Dome since schedules will not conflict. This might mean that Maxine will not be around for long (on Under the Dome, nobody could potentially last for long), or maybe Natalie Zea‘s The Following put-upon character, Claire Matthews, might be exiting prematurely next season. Let us not forget that Natalie Zea is also a regular as Winona Hawkins on FX’s Justified. I did not watch the season finale of that show, so I do not know if Natalie Zea‘s character exited. Please fill me in so you so desire.
Natalie Zea is a beautiful and talented veteran television actor whose robust credits include CSI, Person of Interest, Eyes, Californication, The Shield, Two and a Half Men, Hung, Medium, Dirty Sexy Money, Law and Order: LA, Franklin & Bash, Royal Pains, and interestingly enough, the Freddie Prinze, Jr. Sitcom, Freddie. She was also the original Lana Tisdel in the Boys Don’t Cry short, but got replaced for the Oscar-winning feature film version by Chloë Sevigny (who got her first Oscar nomination from it). Natalie Zea played an uncredited role (likely an extra).
More on this as information becomes available.
Under the Dome premieres on CBS on June 24th. Natalie Zea‘s first episode, 1×09 “The Fourth Hand,” will air on August 19th.

Is Natalie Zea ready to turn the tables…?
After being victimized for much of The Following‘s freshman run, the actress is heading Under the Dome with a “continuing” role on CBS’ summer series, where it appears she will rouse some rabble and stir some pots.
Executive producer Neal Baer tells TV Guide Magazine that Zea, whose TV credits also of course include Justified, will play Maxine, “a woman who makes an alarming appearance” in Episode 9.
“If you think Jim Rennie” — one of the tale’s antagonists, played by Breaking Bad’s Dean Norris — “is trouble, you haven’t seen trouble yet,” Baer teases.
Based on the Stephen King novel about a community that is suddenly and mysteriously closed off from the rest of the world by a transparent membrane*, Under the Dome is set to premiere Monday, June 24. Filming wraps later this summer, long before Fox’s The Following starts up production on Season 2 (to again premiere midseason).
* The Simpsons Movie jokes have been made for almost seven months now, folks. Do better.
