Under the Dome 7/9/13 Interviews with Brian K Vaughan & Neil Baer
The day after Under the Dome 1×03 Manhunt premiered on CBS, Under the Dome executive producers Brian K Vaughan (who also wrote a few episodes this season) and Neil Baer both had interviews about the episode published in The Hollywood Reporter and TV Guide respectfully. They have a ton of spoilers for you for not only the following episode Under the Dome 1×04 Outbreak, which will air on July 15th, but also 1×05 Blue on Blue and 1×06 The Endless Thirst. I must say, I really respect that these creators are willing to give away clues instead simply taking the fifth and withholding all information. With all of the endless speculation from internet haters who do not seem to think that the producers already thought of the complaints they are having ahead of time, it is nice for them to not be smug and just tell everyone that they are wrong to question their judgment. Of course, that does not even begin to explain the god awful expository dialogue in every episode, but that is a discussion for later. These interviews are both must reads. The Hollywood Reporter: Nice Simpsons Movie nod! Did you guys feel the need to inject that into the series? Will there be more?
Brian K. Vaughan: It was only the question of do we do it in the first episode or the second! We were waiting for the right moment because we knew with our young characters that that’s where most people are familiar with a dome covering a town. That’s it for now. We’ll try to find other more obscure domes from past literature to reference but that’s it for The Simpsons for now (laughs).
Are we ever going to see the dome cut through water?
We’ve seen it cut through just about everything else. What kind of damage does it cause being cut through a lake or a water main?
Baer’s response: We’re definitely going to be talking about that in Episode 6.
